Nine goals. The only players in MLS with more play in LA, set the MLS single season scoring record last season, or arrived in the league as the best English striker of a generation.
Kacper Przybylko is announcing himself, and the league recognized the Union's star striker by placing him on the Team of the Week.
Przybylko scored on June 29 against NYCFC, at Orlando City SC, and at home against Orlando; he is now third in the league in road goals, behind only the dynamic LAFC duo of Carlos Vela and Diego Rossi.
But even before Przybylko stretched his current streak of games with a goal to four by opening July with three in two matches, the giant German was putting up numbers on par with the league's elite strikers. Every player with at least 500 minutes played above Przybylko on the shots per match list is a Designated Player. That stat now holds for minutes per goal - Przybylko's approximately 130 minutes per goal is currently fourth behind Vela, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Josef Martinez for players with at least 1000 minutes, and, again, everyone else above him with at least 500 minutes is a DP.
Expected Goals, xG+xA, you name it - right now, Kacper Przybylko's name will show up among the biggest attacking names in Major League Soccer. When he wasn't scoring (there was a three-match run where he was held off the board and a two-match run earlier this year), Przybylko has still averaged three shots per match; he has been held without a shot on goal only twice as a starter.
Przybylko is not the German import that arrived with an eye-watering scoring record last season and the expectation of instant return, nor was he the exciting offseason acquisition granted time to adjust to a new league. When he has had short dry spells, there is the idea that he may not recover his form quickly surfaces.
It took major injuries to knock him off track for a year and a half, and now that he's healthy Kacper "The Friendly Ghost" Przybylko isn't going anywhere.
