Major League Soccer announced the addition of Philadelphia Union defender Kai Wagner to the roster for the 2025 MLS All-Star Game. He replaces David Da Costa of the Portland Timbers on the All-Star roster.
The best players in North America will take center stage at the 2025 MLS All-Star Game this summer, as the MLS All-Stars will face a team of All-Stars from Mexico’s top soccer league, LIGA MX, on Wednesday, July 23 (8 p.m. CT) at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas. The highly anticipated match, which marks the first professional All-Star Game to be played in Austin, will be broadcast live on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV in English, Spanish, and French.
Wagner earns his third career All-star nod (2021, 2022, 2025), which ties teammate Jakob Glesnes for the second most All-Star Game selections in club history. The club's all-time leader in assists with 60, Wagner is second in the league amongst defenders with eight assists in 22 appearances (21 starts). The German left back leads the league in won tackles and has helped lead the Union to one of the top defensive records in the league. The Union currently rank first in the league in fewest goals allowed and have recorded the second-most clean sheets in the league (9). Wagner has also contributed a goal this year, scoring against Toronto FC.
Wagner joins teammates Tai Baribo and Jakob Glesnes as representatives of the Union on the 2025 All-Star Game roster. This marks the second time in club history that three members of the Union have been named to the same All-Star Game with the other occurance happening in 2022.
