Know Your Enemy: San Jose 2018

Philadelphia Union will return home this week to face off against San Jose Earthquakes. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and will be televised on PHL17. We don’t play San Jose often, so here’s everything you need to know about this Western Conference opponent:

Team: San Jose Earthquakes
Venue: Talen Energy Stadium
Kick Off: 7 p.m. ET
2018 Record: 1-2-0, 3 points, 10th in Western Conference
Last Meeting: 2-2 Draw at Avaya Stadium, August 19, 2017
Projected Starting XI (4-4-2): Andrew Tarbell; Shea Salinas, Harold Cummings, Yefferson Quintana, Nick Lima; Valeri Qazaishvili, Florian Jungwirth, Anibal Godoy, Magnus Eriksson; Danny Hoesen, Chris Wondolowski
Player to Watch: Chris Wondolowski

When people hear San Jose Earthquakes one name comes to mind, and that name is Chris Wondolowksi. “Wondo” as many call him, was originally selected by the Earthquakes in the fourth round (No. 41 overall) of the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft, but departed with the team to Houston at the conclusion of that season. He rejoined his hometown team as part of a trade with the Dynamo on June 9, 2009 and has been a mainstay since. Wondolowski has recorded 135 career MLS goals, which is second all-time in MLS history. Of those 135 goals, 131 have come in an Earthquakes uniform. The San Jose Captain has been awarded the Quakes MVP seven times in his career. For Philadelphia, they’ll need to keep an eye on the goal-scoring Captain this Saturday.
