Philadelphia Union fall to FC Cincinnati in high-scoring friendly

Mikael Uhre, Jack McGlynn and Daniel Gazdag found the back of the net on Friday morning as Philadelphia Union fell to FC Cincinnati, 4-3.

The match served as the penultimate preseason friendly for the Boys in Blue as they prepare for Concacaf Champions Cup on Tuesday, February 20th. Head Coach Jim Curtin turned to a high-powered Starting XI that featured Uhre paired alongside Carranza in front of a diamond midfield that consisted of Jose Martinez, Daniel Gazdag plus homegrowns Quinn Sullivan and McGlynn. The Union needed only six minutes to find the back of the net with Uhre marking his preseason start with a quick finish in the box.

Philly bagged back to to back goals in a three-minute burst that started when McGlynn received a cross from Kai Wagner at the top of the box and ripped it through the defense for the two-goal lead. Moments later it was another DOOP as Gazdag finished off a chance after a run into the red zone.

Cincinnati battled back however and made it a 3-2 contest just before the end of the first 45-minute period of play and within minutes of the start of the second period of 30 minutes, it was tied up. With six goals between the two sides it was the reigning Supporters' Shield winners that got the final one as Aaron Boupendza notched a brace.

Philadelphia Union concludes its 2024 preseason presented by Cintron on Wednesday, February 14th, when they take on the New England Revolution. Kick off from Florida is set for 1 p.m. ET.
