The Philadelphia Union Youth programs are built on passion, dedication, and the shared goal of developing the next generation of players on and off the field. In this first part of our Meet the Coaches series, we’re highlighting a few of the incredible individuals who bring our training sessions, camps, and competitions to life. These coaches, who grew up immersed in the global game, each bring unique experience, energy, and heart to our players’ lives.
Lucas Milazzo
Hometown: Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil
Lucas Milazzo brings passion, creativity, and a touch of Brazilian flair to the Philadelphia Union’s Player Pathway Program, where he serves as Lead Coach. His journey with the club is filled with memorable moments, but none more special than the first time he officially joined the Union staff.
When he’s not coaching, Lucas enjoys playing EAFC and binge-watching movies with his wife. His favorite foods are açaí and pizza, and he proudly supports Santos FC, the legendary club where many Brazilian greats began their careers.
Juan Flores
Hometown: Rockford, Illinois
Juan Flores brings enthusiasm and a deep love for the game to his work with the Philadelphia Union, coaching across Youth, PPP, PDP, and Affiliate programs. His favorite Union memory is a 5–5 tournament draw after his team came back from a 4–1 deficit, a moment that showed the power of belief and teamwork.
When he’s off the field, Juan enjoys going on adventures, playing soccer, and watching documentaries. His favorite food is aguachile, and he proudly supports Atlas FC.
Andrew Bennett
Hometown: Newcastle upon Tyne
Andrew Bennett brings a true passion for the game and a bit of Geordie grit to the Philadelphia Union’s coaching staff. Having served as PPP Lead Coach (2013), Head Coach (2016), and across Union Affiliates, Union Rec, and Summer Select programs, Andrew has helped develop countless young players through the years. His favorite part of coaching? That magic moment when it clicks for a player.
When he’s not on the pitch, Andrew can be found watching football, whether cheering on his beloved Newcastle United or “dooping” with the Union. And when it’s time to refuel, nothing beats his favorite comfort food: toad in the hole.
Dan Abel
Hometown: Niceville, Florida
Dan Abel brings energy, focus, and a love for goalkeeping to the Philadelphia Union coaching team. As a PPP Goalkeeper Coach and Union Youth Affiliate Coach, Dan is dedicated to helping young players sharpen their skills and grow their confidence between the posts. His favorite Union memory is working at the Total Experience Summer Camp this past summer, where he enjoyed connecting with players and staff across the program.
When he’s off the field, Dan enjoys watching sports and playing video games. His favorite meal is a simple classic—pasta with red sauce—and when it comes to soccer, his heart belongs to Chelsea FC.
