Philadelphia Union announced today that Jamiro Monteiro has received an international call-up for Cape Verde ahead of 2022 World Cup Qualifier matches. The midfielder is part of six call-ups in October which include Andre Blake and Alvas Powell (Jamaica), Olivier Mbaizo (Cameroon), Daniel Gazdag (Hungary) and Jose Martinez (Venezuela).
Monteiro joins Cape Verde National Team as they continue the second round of the FIFA World Cup African Qualifiers. Monteiro last played for their national sides in September for the first matches of the second round. Monteiro has earned 12 caps for Cape Verde, two in World Cup qualifiers as well as nine in Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches and one in an International Friendly. Cape Verde will face Liberia away (Oct. 9, 11:00 a.m.) and then return home to face Liberia once again (Oct. 12, 11:00 a.m.).
