Philadelphia Union Homegrown midfielder Cavan Sullivan has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday bench for Matchday 22 following his performance in Philadelphia's 1-1 draw against Austin FC on August 22. Sullivan scored the Union's lone goal of the match, helping the club extend its MLS unbeaten streak to six matches.
Sullivan opened the scoring in the 18th minute, finishing off a Union attack to give Philadelphia an early lead on the road. The Homegrown midfielder's performance earned league-wide recognition as he continues to build on a breakout 2026 campaign.
The 16-year-old has been one of Major League Soccer's most promising young players this season. Earlier this year, Sullivan earned MLS Team of the Matchday honors after recording his first career MLS goal and assist against Orlando City (May 13), becoming the second-youngest player in league history to record both a goal and an assist in the same match. He also became the eighth-youngest goalscorer in MLS history at 16 years, 7 months, and 15 days.
Through a career-best 19 appearances (12 starts) this season, Sullivan has tallied a pair of goals while contributing seven assists.
His latest Team of the Matchday selection further highlights his growing impact within Philadelphia's attack as the Union continue their push through the final months of the regular season.
