There were no slow starts for Philadelphia Union's U15s and U17 as they began the second half of 2019-2020 GA Cup regional qualifying.
Both squads picked up 3-0 wins over Inter Miami CF in their first matches at Zion Bank Real Salt Lake academy, with Nick Pariano notching a brace for the U17s and Aaron Heard doing the same for the U15s.
Nelson Pierre also scored for the U17s and Francis Westfield added one for the U15s.
The Union U15s are now inching toward a potential showdown with New York Red Bulls for the top of Group C. After four GA Cup qualifying matches, the Red Bulls have ten points while the Union sit at seven points but tied for the most goals with 10 thus far. If the Union knock off DC United tomorrow, they set up an epic final match that could decide who goes to the GA Cup final in Dallas.
An early red card gave the U17s the opening they needed to control the match against Miami, and they did just that. With 12 goals thus far, the Union sport both the most goals scored and the largest goal differential in their group.
Next up for both Union teams is a pair of rivalry matches against DC United (February 15) and New York Red Bulls (February 17).
