Philadelphia Union Loan Danny Cruz to FK Bodo/Glimt

Danny Cruz Loan

Philadelphia Union announced Wednesday it has loaned midfielder Danny Cruz to FK Bodo/Glimt of Tippeligaen, the top division of Norwegian football for the 2015 season, pending the result of a physical. Per club and league policy, additional terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“This is a great opportunity for Danny to play regularly and we know he’ll represent our club well while in Norway.” technical director Chris Albright said. “While we’re confident in our depth on the wings, this also gives us important salary cap relief as we continue to shape our roster throughout the season."

Cruz, 25, originally joined the club on Aug. 16, 2012 in a trade with D.C. United for Lionard Pajoy. Since then, Cruz has played in 70 games for the Union, with 60 starts, and has scored seven goals with five assists. In 2013, he was tied for second on the team in games played (32) and starts (32) and was third on the team in shots (56). He had yet to play for the club in the 2015 MLS Regular Season.

Cruz played collegiately at UNLV and was originally drafted by Houston Dynamo with the No. 41 overall pick in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft. During his six-year career, Cruz has played in 137 games and has started 99 games. He’s scored 12 goals and handed out 13 assists.

FK Bodo/Glimt earned promotion into Tippeligaen two years ago. The league starts competition in early April.
