Serbian midfielder signs new deal after establishing himself as a key contributor for Philadelphia
Philadelphia Union announced today that the club has agreed to a new contract with midfielder Jovan Lukić through the 2028-29 season with an option each for the 2029-30 and 2030-31 campaigns.
Since joining the Union in February 2025 on a permanent transfer, Lukić has played an important role in the club’s success, appearing in 55 MLS matches (50 starts) while recording two goals and six assists. Additionally, he leads the team with an 85% passing accuracy, completing 705 of 828 passes.
“Jovan has continued to grow and establish himself as an important part of our club since joining the Union,” said Philadelphia Union Sporting Director Jon Scheer. “His professionalism, competitiveness, and commitment to getting better every day reflect the standards we value. We’re excited to see him build on what he has accomplished and continue contributing to the club. This is another important step in our continued effort to maintain and build upon the foundation we have in place, while we continue to strengthen the roster for the future.”
Prior to joining Philadelphia, Lukić developed through Serbia's professional ranks, including time with FK Spartak Subotica in the Serbian SuperLiga, the country's top division. Over two seasons (2023-24), he made 39 appearances and scored two goals, finishing tied for third on the team in scoring during the 2023-24 season.
At the international level, Lukić represented Serbia at the U18, U19, U20, and U21 levels from 2019-21. He made nine appearances in UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying and tournament matches, while also featuring in eight international friendlies.
