CHESTER, Pa. (December 19, 2023) – Philadelphia Union selected goalkeeper Francesco Montali with the 82nd overall pick in MLS SuperDraft 2024 on Tuesday evening.
Montali, 23, racked up 149 saves in 47 appearances (47 starts) in his three years as a goalkeeper at Boston University. In that time, he maintained a .99 goals against average with 19 shutouts in 47 matches.
Some notable accolades Montali received as a Terrier include 2023 United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America First Team, two-time Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year (2022, 2023), 2023 United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region First Team, 2022 All-ECAC First Team, two-time All-Patriot League First Team (2022, 2023), two-time All-Patriot League Tournament Team (2022, 2023), and 2023 Academic All-Patriot League Team.
