Philadelphia Union to host New York Red Bulls in U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal at Subaru Park

Philadelphia Union announced that the club will host Major League Soccer rival New York Red Bulls in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal round on either July 8th or 9th.

For the sixth time in history (2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2018), the Philadelphia Union are one of the final eight teams in the tournament. The quarterfinal contest ahead marks Philadelphia Union's first meeting with New York Red Bulls' this season. So far in the tournament, the team lead by Head Coach Sandro Schwarz defeated Colorado Springs Switchbacks 4-1 and FC Dallas in penalties. After an end-to-end 120 minute battle featuring four goals and a late red card for the Texas side, the match was sent to shots from the spot, where New York emerged victorious scoring four to Dallas' three.

As for Philly, the Union started the tournament drawn into the No. 1 position of the Landon Donovan Group alongside Indy Eleven, Pittsburgh Riverhounds and New York City FC, eventually advancing to the Quarterfinal Round after defeating both USL Championship sides at Subaru Park.

Their most recent win was a dominant 4-1 result in a first-ever Keystone Clash against Pittsburgh Riverhounds featuring goals from Bruno Damiani, Indiana Vassilev, Danley Jean Jacques, and Jovan Lukic.

The Union is amidst their 13th Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup campaign, previously amassing a record of 19-8-4. The Union has a storied history in the prestigious tournament, having reached the Open Cup Finals in 2014, 2015, and 2018.
