Unbeaten in 15
The Philadelphia Union are the only team to remain unbeaten since the World Cup break – 15 matches later, the team has climbed from last in the league to sixth in the East with 46 points, one shy of Charlotte, and two beneath Chicago Fire, their most recent opponents. The Union's eight-match winning streak, also a club record, ended with Saturday's 2-2 draw against Charlotte FC – a back and forth battle highlighted by goals by Milan Iloski and Bruno Damiani.
This weekend, they’ll play their third of four straight matches against teams sitting above them in the Eastern Conference standings, hosting third place New England Revolution on the riverfront.Â
What’s on the line
For the first time, the team’s postseason fate is in their own hands –  the Union can clinch a berth in the Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs with a win against New England Revolution on Saturday, regardless of other results. A playoff berth would mark the Union's 10th postseason appearance in club history and eighth in the last nine seasons.
Golden Boot Race
Iloski is on a five-match scoring streak, most recently placing a penalty in the 24th minute to give the Union the first lead of the day. He currently has 19 goals on the season, making his way up the Golden Boot list in third behind only Petar Musa with 20 and Leo Messi with 25.Â
With one more goal, Iloski would become just the second player in Union history to score 20 MLS goals in a single regular season, joining Daniel Gazdag, who now plays for New England.
Players to watch
- Former Union midfielder Daniel Gazdag was moved from Columbus Crew to New England Revolution this year. The 30-year-old Hungarian played eight games since making the move North, scoring one goal since his arrival. In 43 games for Columbus over 2025 and 2026, he scored seven goals and tallied five assists. During his four-year tenure with the Union before he was traded six games into the 2025 season, Gazdag became the club’s all-time leading goal scorer.Â
- Carles Gil is the Rev’s undisputed MVP with 12 goals and 11 assists in 2026. The 33-year-old Spanish midfielder is in his 8th season with the club.
- In his first full season with New England, U22 initiative player Dor Turgeman has impressed with nine goals and seven assists.Â
- MLS 22 under 22 honoree Peyton Miller, an 18-year-old Homegrown defender from Connecticut, has 7 goals and 7 assists.Â
- New Jersey native and USMNT goalie Matt Turner is in good form following his World Cup campaign as a backup for the Stars and Stripes, making a major save in the Rev’s 1-0 win against Chicago Fire at Gillette Stadium last Saturday.
Notes to Know
- Through their first 15 regular-season matches, the Union sat in last place in the Eastern Conference with seven points and a 1-10-4 record.
- Since Interim Head Coach Ryan Richter's appointment, Philadelphia has earned 39 of a possible 45 points, improving to 46 points and sixth place in the Eastern Conference.
- No team in MLS history has qualified for the playoffs after earning seven or fewer points through their first 15 regular-season matches.
- In a 34-game MLS season, the fewest points earned through 15 matches by a team that eventually qualified for the playoffs was 12 by Seattle Sounders FC in 2018.
- A top-five finish would also make the Union the first team since 2018 D.C. United to finish that high after sitting last in its conference in July or later, excluding 2020.
- With Milan Iloski at 19 MLS goals and Bruno Damiani at 12, the Union have two players with at least 10 MLS goals in a season for the first time since 2022.
- With a win against New England, Richter would become the first head coach in MLS history to record 13 regular-season wins without a loss to begin his managerial career, surpassing Lothar Osiander (12)
