Saturday is Major League Soccer Decision Day, and while the Philadelphia Union have already lifted the Supporters’ Shield and secured home-field advantage throughout the 2025 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, they have one more match to play before the postseason. On Saturday, The Boys in Blue will take on Charlotte FC at Bank of America Stadium.
Tune in for the Philly’s regular season finale at 6pm ET on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
A club-record 20 wins later, the Philadelphia Union are the top team in all of Major League Soccer, and regardless of Saturday’s result, it’ll stay that way heading into the playoffs. While there isn’t much on the line for Philadelphia, their first playoff match will take place about a week later, and maintaining the momentum that propelled them toward their shield-clinching win will be paramount ahead of Round One. Should they travel back to Philadelphia with all three points in tow, they would set a new club high in both points with 69 and wins with 21 to complete their 2025 regular season campaign.
"I feel I would be giving, everyone a disservice, and the players as well, if I started preaching from a different narrative now. So I spoke about every game we put all our eggs into that basket, right? And that's the way I feel we go into this game," Carnell said.
"It's another chance to end the regular season on a historical note for this club, and I think everyone's hungry for that."
As for Charlotte, this year’s Decision Day is a far more consequential one that will decide where they finish in the conference standings, and whether or not they’ll claim home field advantage for Round One of the playoffs. With a loss and combined with other results, Charlotte, who currently sit at fourth, could fall to as far sixth, so it’s likely second-year Head Coach Dean Smith will send out his strongest group.
