Reasons to Watch: Union vs. Rapids

The Union have landed in Denver, Colorado as they prepare to take on the Rapids this weekend at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. As match day gets closer, we give you reasons to watch this interconference clash.

Recent Success vs. Colorado

Philadelphia will look to continue their recent run of form against Colorado Rapids. In their last five all-time meetings, the Union have not lost to the Rapids. The club owns a record of 2-0-3 during that stretch, including a 2-1 come-from-behind win last season at Talen Energy Stadium. Philadelphia has not lost in the Mile High City since September 29, 2010.

Andre the Great

Fans watching Saturday’s contest will want to keep an eye on Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Andre Blake. Right now Blake is tied for the league lead in shutouts with two, despite playing in few matches. Blake is the only regular starting goalkeeper in MLS to own a perfect 100 save percentage, and not allow a goal this season. In his last match on March 17 against Columbus, Blake recorded his 19th career shutout and his second of the season. Blake is now one clean sheet shy of becoming the second goalkeeper in club history to reach 20 and will have the opportunity to reach that number this Saturday.

Mr. Team of the Week

Defender Jack Elliott has had an excellent start to the 2018 campaign. Elliott has started both matches, while playing all 180 minutes. In those two contests this season, Elliott has been a standout at the center back spot, assisting in two shutouts this season. Elliott has been named to MLS Team of the Week two times this season in two matches played. Elliott is coming off a rookie season that saw him finish as a finalist for MLS Rookie of the Year. Elliott is expected to make his 32 consecutive MLS start this weekend in Colorado.

Captain Catalyst

Philadelphia Union Captain Alejandro Bedoya is well known for doing the dirty work for the club. Playing in the midfield, Bedoya has been the general for the club directing traffic on the pitch. As of late, Bedoya has had his fingerprints all over Union matches. Dating back to October of last year, the Union own a record of 3-1-1 with Bedoya as Captain. In those last five contests, Bedoya has recorded a goal or an assist in three of those matches. Bedoya will look to lead the Union to a positive result against the Rapids again on Saturday.
