Philadelphia Union and MLS have mutually terminated the contract with defender Carlos Valdes, the club announced Monday. The defender has been on loan with Nacional of the Uruguayan Primera Division since February. Per club and league policy, additional details were not disclosed.

Valdes originally joined the club prior to the 2011 season and started 65 games in his first two full seasons with the Union. He went on loan to Santa Fe for the 2013 season and again the following year to San Lorenzo. Valdes then made the Colombian World Cup team in 2014 and made one appearance. He returned to the Union following the World Cup last summer and made eight appearances.

In all, Valdes started 73 games in three seasons for the Union. He scored three goals and handed out one assist.
