Union trio named to 2023 SCCL Quarterfinals 1st leg Best XI

CCL QF v Atlas | Starting XI

After helping Philadelphia Union win the opening leg of its Quarterfinal matchup against Atlas FC in the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League, Damion Lowe, Jack McGlynn and Daniel Gazdag have been named to the Best XI by Concacaf for the first leg contests this week.

Lowe earns his second SCCL Best XI accolade after being a beast against the Liga MX side. Lowe showcased his speed and tenacity to help the Boys in Blue pick up another clean sheet with a clutch recovery against Atlas' leading scorer in the first half to make a goal line stop.

Homegrown Jack McGlynn was at the heart of the Union attack as they shifted to a 4-3-2-1 formation on Tuesday night, dropping back to facilitate direct attacks with his left boot. The midfielder also turned in one of his best defensive performances as well, with key tackles to stop any Atlas counter attacks late in the match.

Meanwhile Gazdag bagged the game-winning goal in the 89th minute with a smooth finish from the penalty spot to send the Union to Mexico with a 1-0 lead going into the second leg.

Philadelphia Union returns to SCCL action on Wednesday, April 12th, with kick off set for 10PM ET on FS1 and TUDN.
