Philadelphia Union have waived Alex Mendoza and Damani Richards, the club announced today. The release of Richards will free up an international roster spot.
A product of the Harrisburg City Islanders Academy, Mendoza, 22, spent the last three seasons with Mexico’s Pumas. Richards, 18, has been a regular with the Trinidad & Tobago U-17 and U-20 National Teams and was signed by the Union on January 19.
The Union open the 2013 season on Saturday, March 2 when they host Sporting Kansas City at 4:00 p.m. on 6abc.
