Philadelphia Union opens its 2021 slate in Costa Rica as it faces Deportivo Saprissa in first leg of the Concacaf Champions League. Kick off from Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Aymá is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET and can be viewed on FS1 and TUDN.

  • Newcomer Leon Flach makes his Union debut in the Starting XI against Saprissa. Flach was acquired by the Union from F.C. St. Pauli for an undisclosed transfer fee on March 31, 2021.
  • Homegrown Anthony Fontana starts the match as the second striker alongside Kacper Przybylko. Fontana scored a pair of goals in the Union's final preseason friendly against D.C. United. 
  • Four players on the bench are suited up for the Union for the first time in their careers including the homegrown trio of Nathan Harriel, Jack McGlynn and Quinn Sullivan.
