He began his career playing between the Union and Bethlehem Steel FC, making a total of six Steel appearances, scoring two goals, including the franchise’s first-ever goal on March 25 in their first match against FC Montreal, a 1-0 win. For the Union, he totaled 32 league appearances, scoring three goals and leading all league rookies with seven helpers. He also scored one goal and one assist in two U.S. Open Cup appearances, and started the Union’s postseason match at Toronto FC.
 
COLLEGE EXPERIENCE
 
Herbers played three seasons at Creighton and scored 28 goals while starting 57 games. He was twice named an NSCAA First Team All-American. During his junior year in 2015, he scored 15 goals, registered 17 assists and was named the Big East Offensive Player of the Year. He was also a MAC Hermann trophy finalist. Before coming to the U.S., he played at various youth levels in Germany for SC Preussen Muenster and VfL Rhede.
