PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

 

2018 (Philadelphia/Bethlehem): Herbers made nine regular-season appearances (five starts) at right midfield in 2018. In the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, Herbers made one appearance at right midfield, coming on for his 2018 tournament debut in the Semifinals win over Chicago (August 8). For Bethlehem Steel FC, Herbers made 14 regular-season appearances (14 starts), with eight at right midfield and six at forward, scoring five goals and adding four assists. He notched his first goal of the season as part of a 3-0 win over New York Red Bulls II (May 16). One game later, assisted on Santi Moar's opening goal at Indy Eleven (May 19), and was named to the USL Team of the Week for Week 10. He started at forward in the postseason-clinching win over Tampa Bay (October 14).

 

2017 (Philadelphia/Bethlehem): Herbers made 12 appearances (four starts) in his second season for Philadelphia, totaling one goal and two assists, with nine appearances coming at right midfield and three at left midfield. He scored his first goal of the season during a substitute appearance at right midfield at D.C. United (May 13). He suffered a groin injury vs. Colorado (May 20) and missed a month before returning to practice and suffering a sports hernia, ending his season. He did not appear for Philadelphia in 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. For Steel FC, Herbers made three appearances, scoring once.

 

2016 (Philadelphia/Bethlehem): Herbers, a Generation adidas player, joined the Union as the sixth overall pick in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft. He began his career playing between the Union and Bethlehem Steel FC, making a total of six Steel appearances, scoring two goals, including the franchise’s first-ever goal on March 25 in their first match against FC Montreal, a 1-0 win. For the Union, he totaled 32 league appearances, scoring three goals and leading all league rookies with seven helpers. He also scored one goal and one assist in two U.S. Open Cup appearances, and started the Union’s postseason match at Toronto FC.

 

COLLEGE EXPERIENCE

 

Herbers played three seasons at Creighton and scored 28 goals while starting 57 games. He was twice named an NSCAA First Team All-American. During his junior year in 2015, he scored 15 goals, registered 17 assists and was named the Big East Offensive Player of the Year. He was also a MAC Hermann trophy finalist. Before coming to the U.S., he played at various youth levels in Germany for SC Preussen Muenster and VfL Rhede.
