Justin Mapp

Known for his elusive speed, crossing ability, dribbling skills and capacity to shed defenders along the flanks, Justin Mapp was acquired by the Philadelphia Union on July 26, 2010 in a trade with the Chicago Fire in exchange for allocation money. The wing midfielder has notched a career high eight assists three times (2005, 2006, 2008), all with the Fire. In 2006, Mapp was named to the MLS Best XI squad, an acknowledgement of the best eleven players in the league in a given season.

Mapp has made eight appearances for the U.S. Men’s Senior National Team in his career, earning his first cap on October 12, 2005 vs. Panama, a match in which he started and played 58 minutes in the USA's 2-0 victory. Mapp has also represented the U.S. at the U-20 and U-17 levels, making 16 appearances for the U-20 team and 88 (57 as a starter) with the U-17 squad. Mapp played in all three games for the U.S. in the 2007 Copa America, starting against Lionel Messi and Argentina (6-28), Colombia (7-05) and coming on as a substitute vs. Paraguay (7-02).

Mapp graduated from the Bradenton Academy in 2001 and signed with MLS as a Project-40 player. He was drafted by D.C. United with the fourth overall pick in the 2002 MLS SuperDraft, but played only 28 minutes for DC in his first year as a pro. The Chicago Fire acquired Mapp for Dema Kovalenko before the 2003 season, where he went on to become one of the elite outside midfielders in the league until his playing time began to decrease in 2009. With the Union and Manager Peter Nowak, Mapp is looking to reclaim the form that made him a star at a young age with the Fire.

2010: Acquired by the Philadelphia Union on 7/26 from the Chicago Fire in exchange for allocation money ... In his first match with the club, entered as a second half substitute in the 56th minute against New England on July 31 ... Started and played 82 minutes in the very next match for Philadelphia, a 2-1 loss to Columbus on 8/5.

2009: Played 21 games, 11 starts, and recorded 1013 minutes on the field…scored 1 goals (3/21 @ DAL) with 3 assists …Game tying assist to McBride 9/26 vs. TFC…Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup: Played full 90 minutes in the game @ WLM… SUPERLIGA; played 3 games staring 1 with a goal 6/23 vs. CHV.

2008: One of two players (Busch) to appear in every MLS game for the Fire in 2008… Played 30 games, 26 starts, and recorded 2229 minutes on the field…scored 2 goals (5/8 at DC, 10/18 at TOR)…has 8 assists and is tied for fifth in the league in game-winning assists with three…tied for second most assist on the Fire (Rolfe 8A, Blanco, 11A)…signed a contract extension with the Fire on 9/6… MLS Cup Playoffs: started both Semifinal series matches... recorded an assist (Conde, 49') in the leg 2 of the series vs. NE…started and played 90 min. in conference final @ CLB … recorded an assist (McBride, 30') in the loss…Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup: Came off bench in 46 min. in 3-2 win vs. CLB in USOC play-in on 6/10, notched assist (Herron, 65')…came off the bench in 84 min. of 2-1 loss to DC in USOC quarterfinal on 7/8… International Exhibitions: Started and played 45 min. in 2-0 win vs. Everton on 7/30 registering a game-winning assist (Rolfe, 42')…played first 45 min. at Veracruz (MEX) in 3-1 loss on 8/24.

2002: The 17-year-old midfielder began working with D.C. United on a full-time status in May after completing his high-school studies in Mississippi … Appeared in three contests for DC - all as substitute - logging a total of 28 minutes … Became the fifth-youngest player in MLS history when he made his MLS debut as a second-half sub on 7-24 @ CLB.
