Career Summary

Matt Jones was acquired by the Philadelphia Union on Feb. 9, 2016 via loan from CF Belenenses. Jones, now on his second loan from Belenenses, most recently played with CD Tondela.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

2016 (Union): Matt Jones made his MLS debut against Columbus Crew SC in which the Union won 3-2. He also featured in the second half of play during the Crystal Palace friendly game. He made a number of big saves to preserve the shutout. His veteran presence on the team has also helped the younger keepers develop.

2016 (Steel FC): The Union have loaned out Matt Jones for their affiliate team for three games so far this season. He has a 1.00 GAA thus far.

2015-16 (CD Tondela): On loan from Belenenses, Jones played in 10 games, allowing 12 goals while keeping one clean sheet for the Portuguese first division club. 

2014-15 (Belenenses): Played in 15 games, allowing 15 goals and kept five clean sheets. Also played in six cup matches and posted two more clean sheets. 

2013-14 (Belenenses): Played in 29 league games and kept 11 clean sheets as Belenenses staved off relegation by four points. 

2012-13 (Belenenses): Played in 35 league games and kept 16 clean sheets, leading Belenenses to the title of Portugal's Segunda Liga and promotion into the top division. 

COLLEGE EXPERIENCE

Jones attended college at Sacred Heart University of the Northeast Conference. While there, he was a Second Team All-NEC selection as a freshman in 2005, leading the Pioneers to their first NEC Tournament appearance. Jones was also a two-time First Team All-NEC selection and went on to have a brief stint with the Western Mass Pioneers of the Premier Development League in the United States. He played in four games and made his debut against Harrisburg City Islanders.
