Hometown Hero: Staff Sergeant Kolleen Kitzinger

Philadelphia Union are pleased to announce that the hometown hero for Wednesday night's match against FC Cincinnati is Staff Sergeant Kolleen Kitzinger.


Kitzinger is a lifelong resident of Delaware County and a 2001 graduate of Archbishop Prendergast High School. In 2006, she graduated from Neumann University with a degree in Criminal Justice and four years later enlisted as a motor transport operator in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.


Over the past three years, Staff Sergeant Kitzinger served as an honor guardsman with the Pennsylvania Military Funeral Honors Program rendering over 400 last honors to our Fallen Veterans. 


Staff Sergeant Kitzinger currently serves as a squad leader and unit master gunner with the 1067th Composite Truck Company in Philadelphia. She also serves as a full-time Battalion Career Counselor for the Southeast Region of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.


For her services, she has received many awards and decorations. Some of these honors include the National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon Pennsylvania, Army Achievement Medal, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Driver And Mechanic Badge with Driver-Wheeled Vehicles, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, PA Service Ribbon, Military Funeral Honors Program Service Ribbon and General Thomas J Stewart Medal.
