Navy off to perfect start in 2019

Army-Navy Cup brings out the best in both military academies, and this year that could mean one scary team from the Naval Academy.

A 6-0 start, including four shutouts, has proven that Navy is ready to duke it out among the elite in the Patriot League this season. Led by Jacob Williams and Matt Nocita up front, Navy has used its possession-focused game to control play as they prepare for the in-league portion of the year. Williams and Nocita both have three goals thus far, and their finishing prowess has been backed by the strong play of Ian Bramblett. Nocita’s success is notable because he is tied for the team lead in goals despite playing in the back line. Navy knows they can’t lean heavily on a defender to score all season, but early in the year a surprising contributor can help a team find its footing before they hit high gear.

Navy will need to be at the top of their game this week when Patriot League play begins with a match against Holy Cross. A midweek matchup with Liberty follows, before a huge showdown with the two-time defending Patriot League regular season champion Loyola closes out a difficult portion of the schedule.

Bucknell and American open the October slate for Navy before they face off with Army at Talen Energy Stadium on the 11th.
