U17s and U15s sweep older competition

Philadelphia Union Academy’s older squad face off against even older competition this past weekend, testing their skills against Philadelphia Lone Stars U17s and U23s teams.

The U15 group played a hotly contested battle for the full match against the Lone Stars. They were able to score early in the sixth minute of action when the Union chipped one in over the keeper in transition. From then on out it was a battle back and forth, but the Union were able to stave off the Lone Stars to finish with a 1-0 victory.

The U17’s ran over the Lone Star U23 team on Saturday finishing an astounding 7-1. The Union were able to secure a two-goal lead heading into the halftime break with Marcello Mazzola and Frankie Westfield finding the back of the net. Devon Stopek opened the second half scoring with a chip shot over his own head facing away from the goal to beat the keeper. Marcos Zambrano added one of his own to pad the lead to 4-0 before the Lone Stars scored one of their own. It was all Union from there on out with Zambrano and Westfield completing a brace each and Dominic Dubon closing out the scoring for the 7-1 final.

Both the U15 and U17 teams will close out their 2020 seasons on December 5th when they play host to NYCFC in a pair of club friendlies.
