After scoring his first brace as a professional, homegrown midfielder Cavan Sullivan has been named the MLS NEXT Pro Player of the Matchweek by the league.
The 15-year-old midfielder racked up the Matchweek 18 honor after a brilliant performance against a much older Chattanooga FC side. With the match showcasing two of the top teams in the East, Sullivan opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a striking finish that left the keeper frozen to his spot.
After the Boys in Blue fell behind by two goals in the second half, Union II battled back with two goals in two minutes to force a penalty kick shootout. Sullivan capped off the comeback with a quick finish in the 86th minute to knot the match at 3-3 with a left-footed shot that completed the comeback.
In the shootout, Sullivan scored on his attempt as well to help extend Union II to seven straight unbeaten in league play.
After wrapping up their July home stand, the Boys in Blue hit the road to close out the month with a three-game road trip. It all kicks off on Saturday when Union II travels to Crown Legacy FC for the regular-season finale between the two sides for their season series. Kick off for the July 19th contest is set for 7PM ET and will be broadcast on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
