Philadelphia Union II Earn Point After Shootout Loss to Columbus Crew 2

Philadelphia Union II battled Columbus Crew 2 to a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon at Kinetic Field at the WSFS Bank Sportsplex, earning one point before falling in the ensuing penalty shootout.

Columbus opened the scoring in the 26th minute through midfielder Zachary Zengue, who finished with a right-footed shot from the center of the box. Union II responded just four minutes later, as Stas Korzeniowski headed home the equalizer off a corner kick from Matheus De Paula to make it 1-1.

Union II carried momentum into the second half, with goalkeeper Andrew Rick making several key saves to keep the match level. The back line also held strong late, including a solid defensive shift from Tyler Gladstone after entering in the 82nd minute.

Despite continued pressure from Union II, neither side found a winner before the final whistle. Columbus went on to claim the extra point in the shootout.

The match also featured multiple heat-related breaks, with temperatures reaching 90 degrees in Chester.

Philadelphia Union II returns to action on Saturday, May 23, when they host Atlanta United 2 at Kinetic Field. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. ET on OneFootball.
