Goalkeeper Oliver Semmle was the hero in the penalty kick shootout against Orlando City B on Monday, making two saves to ensure his team grabbed two points in the match. In regulation, defender Isaiah LeFlore cancelled out an early goal from the Florida side with a striking finish from outside the box for his first goal with Union II. The Boys in Blue dominated the match, outshooting Orlando by a 34-6 margin but ended up having to go to the shootout where Philly won by a 4-2 margin.
With just one loss on the season and ranked No. 4 in the league's latest Power Rankings, Union II is well versed in going the distance with six of their 13 matches having gone to a penalty kick shootout where they are 4-2. Sunday's match continues Union II's season-long four-game home stand at Subaru Park with the previous two going the distance.
Union II and Toronto FC II meet for the first time in 2025 but will become regulars throughout the rest of the campaign with two more contests between the two sides including another home showdown at Subaru Park on August 20. Last season it was Philly taking two of the three regular season matches.
TFC II reside in sixth place in the Eastern Conference table with 21 points through their first 14 games of the season. The Canadian side come to town riding a four-game unbeaten streak of their own having knocked off Inter Miami CF II and Orlando City B to wrap up June. 22-year-old Hassan Ayari leads the way with four of the club's 16 total goals this season, having score in three of the club's last four games.
