Philadelphia Union II kicks off September back in Ohio as they look for the season sweep against Columbus Crew 2. Don't miss Sunday's action over on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
Union II returns to play fresh off of securing their fourth-straight trip to the MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs after they knocked off FC Cincinnati 2 by a 2-1 margin on August 31. Neil Pierre opened the scoring with his second goal of the season off a cross from Cavan Sullivan while Eddy Davis III delivered the game-winning strike for his fifth of 2025.
Since booking their ticket to the postseason, members of Union II were away on international duty with Kaidan Moore, Malik Jakupovic and Kellan LeBlanc earning call-ups with the United States Youth National Teams. With four games left, the Boys in Blue now turn their attention to the final push for the postseason as they enter the weekend in a tight race for the No. 2 seed which sees them tied on points with Chicago Fire II and one point ahead of New York Revolution II.
Sunday's contest is the third and final regular season clash between the two teams with Union II claiming all six points thus far. The series started off with a 3-0 win at Subaru Park in May and then followed it up a month later with a 3-1 road win inside Historic Crew Stadium.
After making the postseason each of the past three seasons, Crew 2 finds itself eliminated already as they occupy the bottom spot in the East. While Crew II's offense has been the issue for the side, they came alive with back-to-back four goal matches but were left with just 1 win as a result. August saw the most goals ever in a MLS NEXT Pro conteset with Crew 2 falling by a 7-4 margin to Eastern Conference leaders New York Red Bulls II. Despite the loss, the offense kept on rolling as they blanked Inter Miami CF II by a 4-0 margin to collect their fifth win of the season. Kevin Gbamble notched three of the six goals during that stretch with the 18-year-old second on the team in goals behind forward Chase Adams' eight.
