Union II returns home to host rival Red Bulls II Sunday

RBNY preview

Union II will be back home at Subaru Park on Sunday evening after a long stretch on the road, hosting New York Red Bulls II at 6 p.m. in Chester with coverage on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.

Philadelphia enters the match following a contentious draw against Toronto FC II, in which they surrendered an extra point during a penalty shootout. Though the team didn’t leave Canada with a victory, the highlight of the match certainly came from the Union side. Homegrown Jeremy Rafanello booted a glorious 55th minute volley into the back of the net, gaining attention from across the league and from first team Head Coach Jim Curtin who compared the effort to José Martinez's recent 90th minute Golazo against Orlando City SC.

As for Union II's opponent, they enter the match following a one goal loss to city rival New York City FC II. 18-year-old forward Ricardo Gorday and 19-year-old midfielder Ibrahim Kasule led the charge for Red Bulls II, each contributing a goal to the scoreboard. Kasule sits atop the team’s scoring leaderboard with seven goals so far this season; Gorday is just below him with four.

The New York side has earned a spot near the top of Eastern Conference standings, holding a 8-5-4 record so far in the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season. Favorably for Union II, the team has only claimed three wins on the road.
