After the Union knocked off Chicago Fire, it's instructive to look back at how the Fire gave Philly issues and what weaknesses the Union exploited as they picked at Veljko Paunovic's deep block.

The Union recognized that the Fire wingbacks were liable to leave the back line and leave space in behind. Brenden Aaronson found one such situation and helped set up Marco Fabian's opener. The Fire, however, recognized that Philly's shape leaves space on the flanks if you can stretch the formation vertically. Chicago pinged numerous crossfield balls over the top of the Union diamond as they sought far-side overloads.

Finally, let's take a peek at how the Fire sought to fool the Union with front post action so they could open a gap at the back for a late runner on corner kicks.
