David Accam Pledges Portion of Salary to Common Goal

Growing up in Ghana, David Accam has gone from a young man who was chasing a dream to helping others fulfill theirs.

The footballer has brought joy to those who watch him on the pitch and now is bringing that joy to those who never thought their lives could change. With his latest project, the Union midfielder is going above and beyond what he ever could've imagined as a teenager in Ghana.

Common Goal, launched by Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata, was created for soccer players to come together to donate a portion of their total salary to benefit charitable initiatives around the world.

Accam joined the movement in November, becoming the first African male to help aid those in need by sending one percent of his earnings back home to underprivileged kids.

"Common Goal offered an opportunity for players that have the same goals and same aim," Accam said. "As long as we have the strength and resources, I want to help as much or as many people as I can."

Accam will continue to pledge his salary in order to help change the lives of others who need it most.

Fans can catch the midfielder, along with rest of the Union when they return to action next Saturday against Columbus Crew SC. Kick off for the match is slated for 2 p.m.
