Philadelphia Union lost 2-1 to Seattle Sounders FC Saturday night in front 39,620 fans at CenturyLink Field. Despite being down to 10 men, Sebastien Le Toux brought the Union within a goal in the 73rd minute, but the Union couldn’t find an equalizer. They’ll return to action Saturday, April 23 against New York City FC.
Chad Marshall opened the scoring in the 41st minute off a corner kicker from Andreas Ivanschitz. Union defenders were caught in traffic and Marshall was left unmarked for the open header. The match went into halftime, 1-0, and Roland Alberg picked up a second yellow card in the 53rd minute, dropping the Union to 10 men.
Jordan Morris doubled the Sounders lead in the 71st minute, but the Union immediately answered as Le Toux smashed home a volley from C.J. Sapong. The forward headed a Fabinho cross perfectly for Le Toux, who was injured on the play (cramp) and was replaced by Fabian Herbers.

TEAM NOTES
- The Union fell to 3-4-2 all-time against Seattle Sounders FC and 1-4-0 all-time at CenturyLink Field.
- Josh Yaro made his MLS debut and played 90 minutes. Yaro was drafted No. 2 overall in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, after the Union acquired the pick on a draft-day trade with Colorado Rapids.
- Yaro was paired on the right side with fellow rookie and former Georgetown teammate, Keegan Rosenberry. The two played the same position for the Hoyas last year.
- Tranquillo Barnetta subbed on in the second half for the third consecutive game. The Swiss midfielder has been dealing with a knee injury that forced him to miss most of the preseason. He had played 24 minutes and 27 minutes, respectively, in each of his last two games.
- Brian Carroll did not play, delaying his 350th career appearance. Carroll sits at 349 and will become only the sixth outfield player to reach that milestone in MLS history.
- Sebastien Le Toux scored his 50th all-time goal for the Union. He has 50 goals overall in MLS play.
- Andre Blake made seven saves. He now has 26 on the season, tied for fourth most in MLS.
- The Union won possession 52-48 and had a better passing accuracy that Seattle, 80 to 79 percent.
- The first Seattle goal was the second for Chad Marshall in 2016. The defender has 19 goals all-time in MLS play.
- The second Seattle goal was the first ever for rookie Jordan Morris, the homegrown product out of Stanford.
