eMLS Cup | Serg battles to the end in Last Chance Qualifier

eMLSCup-Serg

Playing for the first time at an in-person eMLS competition, Philadelphia Union esports competitor Sergio Matias looked right at home picking up five wins before falling in the Semifinals of the Last Chance Qualifier on Saturday afternoon.

Playing at Q2 Stadium in Austin, TX, Serg's competition began in group D play against FC Cincinnati, Charlotte FC and the Houston Dynamo with only the top two advancing to the knockout round. Serg came out of the gates strong and showed composure to knock off Cisse by a 3-2 margin in the opening match and quickly followed it up with a 2-1 win against Houston's Adamou_99. Against Khaledi Ali of Charlotte FC, Serg continued his winning ways with 2-1 result to go a perfect 3-0 at the midway point. Needing just a point to advance the Union gamer secured his spot with a defensive gameplan against FC Cincinnati that saw him advance to the KO rounds.

In the quarterfinals Serg faced off against New York City's NYC Gustavo who went a perfect 6-0 in Group A play. Serg stuck to his gameplan and reeled off an impressive 4-1 win that set up a semifinal clash against SavvyPanda from LAFC. In a back and forth battle, Serg's run to make the eMLS Cup came up just short with a 2-0 loss to the eventual winner of the Last Chance Qualifier.
