Philadelphia Union announced today that Jose Martinez has received an international call-up for Venezuela ahead of 2022 World Cup Qualifier matches. The midfielder is part of seven call-ups in October which include Andre Blake, Cory Burke and Alvas Powell (Jamaica), Olivier Mbaizo (Cameroon), Jamiro Monteiro (Cape Verde) and Daniel Gazdag (Hungary). These call ups come in addition to Paxten Aaronson, Jack McGlynn and Quinn Sullivan receiving call ups to the U-20 USMNT training camp in Celaya, Mexico where they will compete in the Revelations Cup in preparation for the 2022 Concacaf U-20 Championship.
Martinez was called up by the Venezuelan National Team after a standout three-game run with the team in October for the World Cup Qualifiers. Martinez, who has a total of 11 caps for La Vinotinto, played in all three matches for Venezuela in the tournament. He also notched his first assist for the national team in a 1-1 draw against Ecuador on June 20. Martinez who made his debut for the team in a World Cup qualifier match on June 3, 2021, against Bolivia, will join them again for their matches vs. Ecuador (Nov. 11, 4:00 p.m.) and Peru (Nov. 16, 6:00 p.m.).
