Philadelphia Union defender Kai Wagner earned MLS Team of the Matchday honors after recording an assist and helping create another goal-scoring sequence in his return to the club and Subaru Park on Wednesday night.
After receiving a warm welcome from the home crowd, Wagner made an immediate impact. His cross helped create the Union’s opening goal in the 10th minute, setting the tone for a 3-1 victory over Red Bull New York.
The club’s all-time assist leader added to his record in the 66th minute when his corner kick led to the Union’s third goal of the night.
Wagner is the fourth Union player to earn Team of the Matchday honors this season, joining Olwethu Makhanya (Matchday 8), Cavan Sullivan (Matchday 13), and Milian Iloski (Matchday 15).
The Union continue their six-game homestand this weekend when they host the Seattle Sounders for DOOPMas in July, a holiday-themed match featuring festive activations and seasonal offerings throughout Subaru Park.
