The Boys in Blue look to wrap up the week with six points after knocking off Eastern Conference rival New York City FC on Wednesday night, 1-0. MLS All-Star Kai Wagner delivered a perfectly timed cross with captain Alejandro Bedoya's run for the match winner in the Xth minute of play. Bedoya's goal was not just his first of 2021 but pushed the Union into a tie for third place in the East.
Saturday's contest will be the first of two meetings this season that sees the Union face off against CF Montreal. The Union won both matches against CF Montréal last season, the first time Philadelphia has recorded back-to-back wins in the series. Philadelphia Union has won four of their last six against Montreal after winning just three of the first 16 meetings.
Montreal comes into the contest sitting right at the playoff line after a scoreless draw on Wednesday night at FC Cincinnati. In the match CF Montréal failed to record a shot on target making the the fifth time in club history that Montreal has failed to hit the target in a match and the first in which it avoided defeat. Saturday night's contest figures to be a close one between the Union and Montreal as the Canadian side currently has a 15-match stream of games decided by one goal or fewer. During that stretch, CF Montreal has a 5-4-6 record. Forward Mason Toye leads the attack for the squad, accounting for seven of the club's 26 goals while midfielder Djordje Mihailovic has been their top playmaker with six assists.
