After knocking off the defending MLS Cup Champions on Wednesday, Philadelphia Union are back in action on Saturday night with another visit to Chicago Fire FC. Kick off from Soldier Field is set for 8 p.m. ET with television coverage on PHL17. Saturday night's match will be the third match this week with the Union collecting four points after a gritty draw at Atlanta United FC on Sunday and a the big home win against Columbus Crew. Jamiro Monteiro providing the game-winning goal in the 24th minute of play, with a display of tactical awareness and pure finishing skill. Racing into the open space between the Crew’s defense and midfield, he quick did a combo with Olivier Mbaizo with the right back racing into space and cutting up the line. Mbaizo’s cross was headed clear by the Crew but landed right at the boots of Monteiro who sent the crowd to their feet with a left-footed finish.
Saturday night's match will be the second time the two sides have matched up in the Windy City with the Union taking a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Cory Burke and Jakob Glesnes. All-time the Union hold a 12-9-5 advantage in the series against the Fire.
Chicago Fire FC is off to a rough start to the 2021 season with just four points in their first nine matches. The Fire have netted just one goal since the start of May which came in their 1-0 home win against Inter Miami CF. Chicago's defense has been strong this season despite what their record shows with only 14 goals allowed including three 1-0 losses in their last four contests.
