Ahead of the 2022 eMLS season Philadelphia Union announced today that the club has added Sergio ‘Serg’ Matias and Adam Booth to its esports roster. Serg will represent Philly as the club's eMLS player for the 2022 season while Adam Booth will serve as a content creator.

Playing under the gamer tag of smatias17, Serg brings a wealth of success in FIFA competitive play which will set him up strong for his debut campaign in eMLS. His competitive FIFA eSports career began with FIFA19 finishing in the Top 64 in North America in online play. The following year he continued to rise up the charts with a Top 40 final rank of the best PlayStation competitors on the continent. In FIFA21, his level hit an even higher height by ranking in the Top 20 which was highlighted by a Top 3 finish the FIFA Global Series North American Qualifier.

The Westchester, New York native's connection to FIFA and online gaming was fueled by his love of the beautiful game and fuels his passion and competitive spirit. With dreams of playing as a pro on the pitch, Serg played collegiately at Concordia College and at the semi-professional level. While his dreams came to an end after a knee injury, Serg channeled his passion to the virtual pitch and it's only continued to grow.

"The Union's values and vision align with mine and they have terrific fans, a great team and are all around an incredible organization," Matias told PhiladelphiaUnion.com. "You add in their winning history in competitive play and joining the Union was an easy decision. For my first season of eMLS, I'm going to set the bar high for myself with my goal is to win at least one of the eMLS League Series events."

Joining Serg in the Union's 2022 roster is Sons of Ben's very own Adam Booth. Longtime capo and esports aficionado, Booth will serve as a content creator and voice of the Union for the 2022 eMLS season. Booth will be there every step of the way to help guide fans through Serg's journey in eMLS and create engaging esports content for Union fans.

“I am extremely excited to join the Union eMLS roster," Booth told PhiladelphiaUnion.com. "I’ve been involved with esports for most of my life and am pumped to start this chapter with the U. It’s going to be a wild ride!”
