New EV charging stations and AI-powered smart light fixtures enhance fan experience, safety, and sustainability at Chester-based Subaru Park and WSFS Bank Sportsplex
Comcast Smart Solutions, a division of Comcast Corporation, today announced a new smart technology deployment with Major League Soccer’s Philadelphia Union. The initiative helps transform Subaru Park and the WSFS Bank Sportsplex into a next-generation smart campus, featuring electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and AI-enabled lighting systems designed to elevate security, sustainability, and the overall fan experience.
“Our goal is to deliver the best matchday experience in Major League Soccer, and that starts the moment fans arrive,” said Tim McDermott, President, Philadelphia Union. “This isn’t just a tech upgrade, it’s a bold step forward in our commitment to fans and our community. Comcast’s integrated approach to smart technology and connectivity simplified the process and enabled us to create a more connected, innovative, and welcoming environment for all our visitors.”
At the core of this transformation is Comcast Business’s high-performance Metro Ethernet network, which provided the scalable bandwidth needed to power data-intensive smart solutions across the campus.
A Seamless, Premier Experience from Parking Lot to Pitch
The Philadelphia Union selected Comcast for its end-to-end capabilities, deep technical expertise, and ability to deliver cost-effective, future-ready solutions. The deployment focuses on two key areas:
- Powering the Future with EV Charging: To meet growing demand for electric vehicles, Comcast Smart Solutions installed Level 2 EV chargers at the WSFS Bank Sportsplex. The chargers operate on an open protocol (OCPP) platform, enabling easy scalability and centralized performance monitoring. This system helps keep chargers ready for gameday and opens potential new revenue opportunities for the club.
- Smarter Lighting to support a Safer, More Connected Campus: Across campus parking lots, more than 300 Juganu smart light fixtures were installed, including 100 with built-in AI video analytics capabilities. These fixtures do more than illuminate, they integrate seamlessly with existing infrastructure and offer:
- CCTV capabilities for enhanced security
- AI video analytics to monitor traffic, parking, and safety
- Public WiFi access to keep fans connected from arrival to entry
Together, these features create a seamless, data-driven experience that enhances safety and convenience for fans and staff alike.
“The Philadelphia Union shared a bold vision for their campus, and we are proud to help bring it to life,” added Mike Slovin, Vice President and General Manager, Comcast Smart Solutions. “This is what a smart venue looks like in action. By integrating advanced technologies across the campus, the Union is setting a new standard for connected, sustainable sports and entertainment destinations.”
