Philadelphia Union is set for another home match, this time hosting Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in a friendly on Saturday evening at 5PM ET.
Eintracht Frankfurt is a historic club in Germany’s top-tier league, founded in 1899. They found success in their country and across the world, winning the German championship once, the DFB-Pokal five times, the UEFA Europa League twice and finished as runner-up in the European Cup once.
Most recently, they finished third in the Bundesliga in the 2024-25 season, earning spot in Champions League through league standings for the first time in club history.
Philadelphia and Frankfurt are considered sister cities, and 2025 marks the 10th year of the official partnership. Relationship aside, there will be some brotherly love on the pitch as Union Homegrown Paxten Aaronson from Medford, New Jersey, currently plays for German side.
He departed the Union to sign with the club in November 2022, and since then, he’s spent time on loan with Eredivisie side Utrecht. He returned to Eintracht Frankfurt at the close of the 2024-25 season, and he is part of the travel party that will visit Subaru Park on Saturday night, so fans can anticipate a reunion on the pitch come game time.
The two clubs met for a friendly in 2018, where the Union secured a 1-0 victory on July 14, with a goal by former Union Homegrown, Derrick Jones. Additionally, the Union signed Mexican midfielder Marco Fabián from Frankfurt in 2019 and later transferred Homegrown talent Paxten Aaronson to the Bundesliga side.
