The Philadelphia Union are set to play their final home match before the World Cup break on Saturday, May 16th at Subaru Park, hosting Columbus Crew. The match begins at 7:30pm, tune in on Apple TV to watch.

Last outing against Columbus

Philly’s spring schedule is winding down, with just two matches left on the schedule before Major League Soccer pauses for almost two months during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Boys in Blue have one match at home and one on the road to close May, starting with a return affair against Columbus Crew on the riverfront. It’s been less than a month since they last faced the Ohio side led by Henrik Rydström.

On April 25th, the team fell 2-0 to Columbus on the road, conceding a goal by Max Afrsten in the third minute, then an own goal in first-half stoppage time.

Philly’s spot in the standings

Since their road match against the Crew, the Boys in Blue have added just one point to their total, picking up a draw and two more losses. They currently sit at the bottom of the Supporters’ Shield standings with a league-low of six points. Most recently, they fell 4-3 to Orlando City on the road, despite a high-intensity second half with three Union goals. Milan Iloski, Cavan Sullivan, and Ben Bender each hit the back of the net in the second 45 minutes, but despite the determined effort, Martín Ojeda scored his second of the night in the 89th minute to secure all three points for his team.

Columbus Crew has fared similarly to Philly since the pair’s last meeting, dropping three straight league matches against Minnesota, New York City, and Red Bull New York. They sit at 13th in the East, above on Atlanta and Philly.

A historic outing

While Wednesday’s midweek matchup against Orlando didn’t finish in favor of Philly, there were still some positive takeaways, including the performance of Cavan Sullivan, who came off the bench to replace Jovan Lukic at the end of the first.

His shift was his most impactful since becoming the youngest player to debut in Major League Soccer history – he assisted Iloski’s momentum-shifting goal, then scored one of his own.

Unity night

Philadelphia’s final home match at Subaru Park before the World Cup break is Unity Night – a celebration of the diversity that makes soccer the world’s game. From a special new tee in the shop to food, drinks, and performances from multiple different cultures on-site, Unity Night is shaping up to be the perfect close to MLS play on the riverfront before the beautiful game takes the world stage in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
