David Accam’s late gamewinner came moments after Bastian Schweinsteiger appeared to steal his team a point with a late header. This back and forth affair was never boring, and both teams put on a similarly exciting display when the Union took this year’s first showdown 2-0 less than a month ago.
Final time together?
This could be the last time you see German-born legends Bastian Schweinsteiger and Kacper Przybylko on the same pitch together.
Additionally, this might be the final chance to see Ilsinho turn Schweinsteiger into a human spinning top. The Fire have proven wholly unable to contain the Union’s Brazilian stone cold s-killer, and now they will have to corral him while keeping eyes on a heating-up Fabian and the league’s fifth leading goalscorer in Przybylko.
Sweep and away form
Sweeping the Fire would give Philly six away wins on the season, equaling the club’s single season record from a year ago. That was the third best away record in the Eastern Conference in 2018, and this year only Portland and LAFC have more wins away from home than the Union. Jim Curtin never won more than three games in a season for his first three years as a head coach and he has become one of the better road managers in MLS.
