Former Head of Academy Scouting returns to Philadelphia after serving as U.S. Soccer's Talent Identification Manager for the West Region
Philadelphia Union announced today that Roberto Giménez has been named Technical Director. Giménez returns to the club after spending the past two years with U.S. Soccer, where he served as Talent Identification Manager for the West Region.
“Roberto has a strong understanding of our club, our identity and strategy, and our approach to identifying and developing talent,” said Philadelphia Union Sporting Director Jon Scheer. “His time with U.S. Soccer has broadened his perspective on best practices across the landscape, while allowing him to collaborate with club and federation leaders domestically and internationally. More importantly, Roberto is a strong leader with tremendous character who understands our culture and standards. We are excited to welcome him back, as he will play an important role in advancing our sporting strategy across every level of our professional player pathway—from the Academy through Union II and into the first team.”
In his new role, Giménez will oversee key aspects of the club's professional player pathway, including the identification, development, and progression of top young talent across the Academy, Union II, U22 Initiative players, and the first team. Additionally, he will support scouting, recruitment, and player development efforts while helping align the club's game model and methodology across all levels.
Giménez originally joined the Union in February 2020 as Academy Scouting Coordinator before being promoted to Head of Academy Scouting in August 2021. He joined U.S. Soccer in May 2024, overseeing player identification and evaluation efforts throughout the West Region. Before beginning his career in scouting and player development, Giménez spent time in Real Madrid’s youth academy and played collegiate soccer at the University of Delaware.
