Philadelphia Union announced today that goalkeeper Rais Mbolhi has been called up by Algeria to appear in group play action for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
The two-time World Cup veteran Mbolhi will be in net for Algeria in a pair of matches against Malawi on Oct. 11 and Oct. 15. Algeria currently leads Group B after collecting victories against Ethiopia and Mali in early September.
Mbolhi notched a 1.00 goals against average through four career starts for the Union, earning a 1-1-2 record. He will miss Philadelphia’s match against Columbus on Oct.11 and will be available for selection on Oct. 18 against Sporting Kansas City.
Mbolhi led Algeria to the quarterfinal round of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, falling to eventual champion Germany in extra time.
