CHESTER, Pa. (October 15, 2018) – Philadelphia Union announced today that registrations for the club’s first College Clash tournament are now open. Earlier this year, as part of Major League Soccer’s eMLS initiative, the Union held the first-ever Union Esports Open, which was won by local gamer Cormac “Doolsta” Dooley. Doolsta went on to represent the Union at the eMLS Cup at PAX East in Boston.

The winner of the Union College Clash will join Doolsta on the Union’s gaming roster and will become eligible to compete in and participate in club events. The College Clash will be held with the first 64 college students to register, and will be held at Dave and Buster’s Penn’s Landing on Saturday, October 27th.

The event is presented by Independence Blue Cross (Independence) and powered by N3rd Street Gamers. Independence will provide participating competitors with exclusive Union warm-up gear and will also activate their partnership with branding on the club’s livestream, social media, and other video content surrounding the event.

Additionally, N3rd Street Gamers is America’s premier amateur esports pipeline. Their mission is to eliminate the barrier of entry to esports while simultaneously creating an ecosystem of in-person opportunities for developing competitors. Founder and CEO of N3rd Street Gamers, John Fazio, sees the College Clash Tournament as aligning with this mission.

“Esports provides an incredible new medium to build competitive ecosystems,” says Fazio, founder and CEO of N3rd Street Gamers. “It creates the same opportunities to learn and grow as traditional sports have for so many Americans.”

All participants must be 16 years of age or older to participate in the Union College Clash.
