Philadelphia Union announced today that Jose “El Brujo” Martinez has received an international call-up for Venezuela ahead of their World Cup qualifiers. The midfielder is part of eight call-ups in March which include Andre Blake (Jamaica), Daniel Gazdag (Hungary), Olivier Mbaizo (Cameroon) in addition to Paxten Aaronson, Jack McGlynn, Quinn Sullivan, and Brandan Craig receiving call ups to the U-20 USMNT.
Martinez was called up by the Venezuelan National Team for their pair of matches in the group stage of the World Cup qualifiers. Martinez, who has a total of 14 caps for La Vinotinto, recorded his first assist for the national team in a 1-1 draw against Ecuador on June 20, 2021. He last played for Venezuela in a match against Uruguay on Feb. 1, 2022 and joins the squad once again for their matches vs. Argentina (March 25, 7:30 p.m.) and Colombia (March 29, 7:30 p.m.).
