Professional Experience:

2019: 27 GP, 23 GS, 3 G, 0 A in 2,101 min.
Acquired by Bethlehem Steel FC via loan from Deportivo Saprissa on February 28, 2019. Made his Steel FC debut in a start at home against Memphis (March 24) and then started the following match against Pittsburgh (March 30). Came on as a second-half substitute in the matches at Swope Park (April 6), against Charleston (April 13), at Loudoun (May 3) and against Atlanta (May 12). Cortés returned to the starting lineup in the match against Ottawa (May 19) and started the following matches against Louisville (May 26), at Red Bulls II (May 31) and against Nashville (June 9). He started in the match against Saint Louis (June 15) and scored his first goal for Steel FC. Cortés returned to the starting lineup in the match at Hartford (June 28) and notched his second goal of 2019 for the Steel. Cortés then started the match at Pittsburgh (July 4) and scored his third goal in a start at Louisville (July 20), the game-winner. He started the following matches at Saint Louis (July 27), against Hartford (August 1), at Nashville (August 10), against Birmingham (August 25) and Swope Park (September 1). The Costa Rican wore the armband for the Steel in the match against Swope Park, captaining the Steel for the first time in his career. He started the following match at North Carolina (September 7).

Pre-2019: Before the start of the 2019 USL Championship season, Cortés was a part of Deportivo Saprissa's youth academy in Costa Rica. 

 

International Experience:

2018: Cortés featured for Costa Rica’s Under-20 National Team during the 2018 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, scoring one goal in two starts and recording clean sheets in both of his appearances during the competition. Cortés started in Costa Rica’s matches against Bermuda (November 1) and Barbados (November 4), scoring in the match against Bermuda and helping the Costa Rican’s win both matches by scores of 5-0 ad 2-0 respectively. The defender’s efforts helped Panama’s U-20s go undefeated in the competition, before falling to the United States U-20 National Team on November 17.
