Match blog: Union preseason scrimmage against Birmingham Legion FC

Philadelphia Union looks to conclude the opening half of its preseason training camp in Clearwater, Florida, unbeaten when it faces off against Birmingham Legion FC. Check out all the action as the Union face off against the USL Championship newcomers at the Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex. Be sure to refresh the page for live updates from the scrimmage.

8:40: Referee blows the final whistle and the Union conclude the first half of preseason training with a win thanks to goals from Ilsinho, Kacper Przybylko and David Accam.


8:35: Insurance goal achieved! David Accam gets around the keeper, spots and then scores from a tight angle on the left side! 3-1 for the Boys in Blue.


8:34: Not much time left as the Union hold a 2-1 lead.


8:29: Referee goes to his pocket for the first time tonight and shows a yellow card to Birmingham.


8:22: GOAL!!! Fontana creates a chance and goes to his left toward Przybylko who caps it off with a right-footed curler for a 2-1 Union advantage.


8:19: Brenden Aaronson creates some space and has a chance on goal but he's denied by the keeper.


8:15: More friendly help as the Union loan Bethlehem Steel FC defender Ben Ofeimu for the rest of the scrimmage to Birmingham. 


8:12: Birmingham tries to take advantage of the changes to the squad but Auston Trusty with a big block on a blast and then Coronel comes up with a big stop. 


8:06: Squad rotation for the Union, here is how we line up now: Coronel; Real (RB), McKenzie, Trusty, Wagner; Aaronson, Jones, Fontana; Przybylko; Santos, Accam.


8:00: Union help out Birmingham with a substitute so Bethlehem Steel FC's  Michee   Ngalina  will play for the USL Championship side.

7:55: Second half underway and the Union with four changes to the current lineup: Sergio Santos and Kacper Przybylko in at forward for CJ Sapong and Fafa Picault. Derrick Jones goes in for Warren Creavalle and Carlos Miguel Coronel takes over between the posts for Andre Blake.


7:44: Referee signals for halftime and we're tied 1-1 thanks to Ilsinho's strike! 


7:41: Fafa with a great run, breaking some ankles before serving up a cross. After some pinball in the box, Union called offside.


7:35: Birmingham makes an adjustment to their group, still tied at one.


7:29: Bedoya nearly puts the Boys in Blue ahead as he chipped the Birmingham keeper but a defender clears it off the line.


7:25: Both teams settling in the scrimmage now, no chances since the early goals. Ale tries a chip that beats the keeper but saved off the line by a defender.


7:14: That didn't take long! Picault with a strong run down the wing and cuts it back to Sapong. With the defense crashing in, he lays it back to Ilsinho at the top of the box for the strike inside the top of the bar. 1-1 through the first 15 minutes of the match.


7:07: Birmingham on the board first as a left-footed curler crashes off the bar and in.


7:00: Referee blows his whistle and we are underway!
