Hometown Hero: Avionics Electrical Technician Third Class Hector Vega

The Philadelphia Union are pleased to announce that the hometown hero for Saturday night's match against Seattle SoundsAvionics Electrical Technician Third Class Hector Vega.


Vega was born and raised in Puerto Rico and joined the Coast Guard as a reservist in July 2010. He transitioned to active duty in 2014 and served on board of Coast Guard Cutter Farallon out of San Juan, PR. While stationed there he worked as a boarding team member and translator on drug interdiction and maritime security patrols.


After successfully completing Avionics Electrical Technician School in 2016, he reported to Air Station Atlantic City as an MH-65 helicopter technician. Since reporting he has participated in the response to Hurricane Florence and deployed several times in support of the National Capital Region Air Defense unit in Washington, D.C.


For his services, he has received many awards including the Commandant's Letter of Commendation, Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Coast Guard Overseas Service Ribbon, Coast Guard Special Operational Service Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal.
